Costumes are not just a visual element.

Lizzie Donelan is a Brooklyn-based costume designer working in film, TV, and theatre. She recently designed the upcoming feature “Rebuilding” (dir. Max Walker Silverman), set to premiere in competition at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The film follows a group of people at a FEMA camp in the wake of a wildfire in Southwest Colorado and stars Josh O’Connor, Meghann Fahy, Amy Madigan and Lily LaTorre.

She also designed the costumes for celebrated theater writer/director Annie Baker’s first foray into film "Janet Planet" (A24, 2024). “Janet Planet” is a portrait of a single mother and her daughter over the course of one summer in 1991 in Western Massachusetts. The film features Julianne Nicholson, Zoe Ziegler, Elias Koteas, Sophie Okonedo and Will Patton.

Recently, with her long-time collaborator and mentor Suttirat Anne Larlarb, Lizzie co-designed the off-Broadway production "Hold On To Me Darling," written by Kenneth Lonergan, starring Adam Driver. Lizzie had previously worked with Suttirat in an assistant costume design role on projects including "Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the animated series “Blue Eyed Samurai,” and the most recent James Bond installment "No Time to Die.”She also served as an assistant and associate designer on Broadway shows including "Macbeth," "Straight White Men," "Finding Neverland," and "Waitress."

Other recent design work includes the feature films “The Adults” (starring Michael Cera, dir: Dustin Guy Defa, a Universal Pictures release), “Funny Face” (dir: Tim Sutton, Berlinale Premiere), “Come Find Me” (dir: Daniel Poliner), and various short films including Let Liv (dir: Erica Rose, Tribeca Festival Premiere). Her work has premiered at festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, Berlin, Telluride and New York Film Festival.
